In a world filled with challenges, there's one superpower that can help us conquer anything: a growth mindset. But what exactly is it? Let's break it down in simple terms.
Imagine you're faced with a tough math problem. With a fixed mindset, you might think, "I'm just not good at math," and give up. But with a growth mindset, you believe that your abilities can improve with effort and practice. You tackle the problem, knowing that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow.
That's the magic of a growth mindset—it's all about believing in your potential to grow and improve. Instead of being discouraged by setbacks, you see them as stepping stones to success. Whether it's learning a new skill, overcoming a challenge, or facing adversity, a growth mindset empowers
you to keep going, keep learning, and keep
growing.
But why is it important? Well, think about it this way: with a growth mindset, the possibilities are endless. You're not limited by your current abilities or circumstances. Instead, you're driven by a sense of curiosity and resilience, eager to embrace new opportunities and challenges.
Research shows that people with a growth mindset tend to achieve more, persist in the face of obstacles, and ultimately, lead happier, more fulfilling lives. So, how can you cultivate a growth mindset? It starts with changing the way you think. Instead of saying, "I can't do this," try saying, "I can't do this yet." Instead of fearing failure, embrace it as a natural part of the learning process.
Growth Mindset at US and Art
The students at US and Art learn about growth mindset during class by always starting the day saying out Mantra "My art is AWESOME because I am AWESOME!" Then our teachers go through a small lesson about growth mindset.
One of our student's favorite lessons on growth mindset is the POWER OF YET! "Yet" is a very powerful word that can change fixed mindset statements into growth mindset statements. Next time you say a fixed mindset phrase, try adding the word "yet" at the end. Just by saying "yet" you will notice yourself thinking with a growth mindset and realizing that you may be struggling now, but later you might get it!
With adult classes there is one lesson that especially helps them. Many of our students are very new to the mediums or subjects we are painting, but all of them have used amazon! So we show how amazon's first website was not very good YET. Then they worked hard, they kept going, took new ideas and feedback, made mistakes, and finally got to where they are now as one of the most successful businesses in the world.
By adopting a growth mindset, you'll unleash your full potential and embark on a journey of endless growth and discovery.
So go ahead, embrace the power of a growth mindset, and watch as the world becomes your playground for learning and success!
